Legs Itching for a 42km

The title says it all.

I derive a certain joy from running long distance. Mmm...is 42km considered long? For some, i know it's not but to me, anything above 40km is long. I am not saying i am absolutely comfy with this distance. Things like tummyache, hot weather, cramps still affect me at certain point. But somehow i just enjoy the way these different versions of "pain" hit me. Heheh..sounds masochistic huh?

My 1st marathon was the smoothest (and also the slowest :P). The 2nd one saw me running with cramps from 27km onwards. At Tokyo, i was too paisei & cold to stop running. When i reached ard 34km, i was so tired that i tot to myself "run simi marathon la...so tiring". By the time i did KL, i was fine with the distance even though the weather was kinda hot. Perhaps i have been clocking high mileages prior to that race.

Last Wed, i attended a talk by an Aussie coach - Mr Guy Oden on "Higher Performance for Long Distance". He is currently mentoring some of our local popular running figures like Sumiko & VT. He mentioned abt doing just one marathon per year will suffice and that runners only have 9 lives so we gotta treasure them. Although i agreed with his school of tots abt the training methods & all that, i do not share the same abt 1-marathon-per-yr thingy. Well...i guess to each his own objective. For me, i enjoy LSD hence don't even mind hitting the road for that distance (or beyond) on an ordinary day (preferably with kakis tho). Of course, i am assuming my life doesn't get busy suddenly la...heheh.

Been gymming for the past 2 days, doing 3km runs on treadmill *YAWN* Patiently nursing my injury from TW. I don't even dare to take over KL's place for this Sun's Passion Run. As much as i want to run asap, i can't afford to aggravate the injury whilst recovering & compromise next week's MF run.

I shall patiently wait for another week :)
