I improved yet I am disappointed. I know, i am ironic.
As compared to last yr's MF run, i cut my timing by 4 min (1:08). So why am i still unhappy? Upon crossing the finish line, i looked at my watch and was fine at first. It only sank in that i din do that well when runners who were slower than me did not come back too long after me (i know, i can't draw comparisons like that). After all the running, i shld be faster but i'm not.
Yes initially i gave all sorts of excuses to make myself feel better for today's poor performance...this being my 3rd run after recovery from injury, this being my first 10km race for the yr after so much LSD, i've been experiencing "sugar-low"s of late, etc etc etc. But still, MF is my home ground. I know every bend & curve, when i shld speed up, when i can "rest".
Serene said my problem lies on the flats, not the uphills. Apart from posing for a pic when i saw Aili snapping (hahah, that was a morale booster), i did not stop while climbing the hills. However, once i hit flats, i tend to cut back. She attributed it to my past mths' trg for Trailwalker. My legs are too used to LSD & slow-twitch muscles don't just turn to fast-twitch without trg. I have to train shorter distances at higher intensity if i wanna do well.
Anyway, whining doesn't help. I must act on it. Til the next 10km race in Jul...
