回顾零八 Sep - Dec

Alrightey...finally the last quarter. I've been sitting here at Starbucks for the past 3 hours+. My bum is heating up...hahhah.

It's a busy last quarter...socially.

September 08 JASLYN's BIRTHDAY

A few of us celebrated Jaslyn's birthday at Dragon Gate Restaurant. Been a while since we had dim sum. The spread wasn't fantastic so we resorted to eating a lot of 风爪...quite record-breaking actually :P

Meanwhile, our GE women training runs continue and Stacey joined us.

October 01 MY BIRTHDAY!!!

I'm so happy! My pals celebrated my birthday twice!

28Sep - we went for a nice dinner at Shin Kushiya and proceeded to Boiler Room for drinks. Yes...a lot of drinks til i puked at the carpark near my place. Yucks!

01Oct - Caught a movie with Joanna, Aili & Chen Ping. They knew it was my bday and gave me a movie+dinner treat. So nice of them :)

I joined my chummy ger friends at Irene's multi-storeyed home after dinner. It was intended to be just a gathering but they surprised me with a green tea bday cake. They had drinks but i din dare to touch it a bit after 28Sep's hangover. We stayed over and chatted lots :P

October 04 THE NORTH FACE 100

This run was made difficult cos i suddenly went weak and never recovered til after the run.

At the same time, this run was made easier cos i had the support of a very good teammate. Thanks a lot Serene!

October 26 GE WOMEN 10K

The training hours paid off. The girls completed in decent timing. I am proud of them and at the same time, happy that we have ran together - a first after ten over years of friendship! :)

October - November RACING THE PLANET - SAHARA

Hwee Hoon & Joyce went for Sahara Desert Run - 250km. They completed in good timing! Well-deserved returns after months of stair-climbing, running on beaches & being BBQed under the hot sun.

November 07 HONGKONG TRAILWALKER

A lottery event. 0874...remember these 4Ds *lol*

It's a tough walk! I can't imagine the Gurkhas clocking a sub-12hr timing for that kind of terrain. Up up and up.

Despite some slight misunderstanding, i enjoyed this event VERY MUCH with my lovely teammates - Joanne, Peh Gee & Uncle Jack.

Given a chance, i wld wanna do it again.

November 23 BANGKOK MARATHON

I signed up for this marathon on the eve of the event. Originally intended to go BKK to visit Irene, have Xiaoji's hen nite and to 顺便run this marathon. Then the headcount was left with only Meijin, Charlene, Ahbu and me. In reality, I didn't train Hee...i got lazy after HKTW.

In the end, i still went for it cos i wasn't confident of doing SCSM with the SWET.

Anyway, this shot with the granny - she's really good. 66 y/o and still running strong. I couldn't overtake her at the last 100m :P

December 07 SCSM & XIAOJI + ALLAN'S WEDDING

Ran with the SWET gers for this year's marathon (else there's really no reason why i shld do SG marathon again...the route is the same every year). They were roped up and ran in their harnesses. Thankfully, the weather was nice.

Went home to catch an hour's sleep then rushed down to The Pines for Xiaoji's wedding. I was the emcee but not too bad since i was gonna speak English.

I must say Xiaoji's photographer is quite impressive. Very natural and "feeling" shots and he isn't a chatterbox (works quietly).

We celebrated Chris' birthday after the wedding. Hahah...this pic somehow looks like we are hostesses from some nightclub.

December 20 CHRISTMAS PARTY - FESTIVALS

This year is our 9th annual Christmas gers' party! We have came a long way.

There is no worst-dressed award cos everyone pulled up their socks and made efforts to dress to the occasion :P

Only pity that Ahbu was sick hence had to go off early.

Okay! Done done done! I'm gg home to makan oredi...so hungry. Off to count down at Helipad later! Yeh!!! Til 2009 i blog my next. Cheers!

回顾零八 May - Aug

May 17 JAPAN TRAILWALKER
Kickstart the 2nd quarter with an ultra-distance event. I signed up for this event quite soon after Tokyo Marathon. Hahah....did i miss Japan that much? *wink*

At the 21st km, my ankle injury decided to make a comeback and extended upwards...just before my calf. Thru this 100km, i also discovered that i need a lot of sleep! I can just "collapse" and sleep anywhere. See this pic? I was so sleepy that i just went to the side of the trail and laid down for a good 5-10min nap. Looking back, i feel kinda guilty for having made my teammates wait for me in the cold.

June 06 MEIJIN'S BDAY & GE 10KM
Yeh! I finally got 2 of my good friends to run! It was presented to Meijin on her birthday, packaged as a business proposal. We even made a short video clip. Of course, i came up with the bright idea and got Charlene to agree (a little reluctantly..hee).

In July, I started taking up running classes conducted by Fifth Ray under Swee Kheng. After running for a couple of years, i thought why not try professional coaching and see if my running improves.

In the same quarter, i did VGO Mount Faber Run, Shape Run & SBR. It was also during this time that my sugar level dips frequently during runs.

June 08 INAUGURAL SUNDOWN MARATHON
The sgrunners set up a support booth for this inaugural event. And since many of my friends were participating, i decided to chip in some help too. Anyway, i was recuperating from my JPTW injury. Even if i wasn't down, i seriously don't know if i will enjoy running park connectors + East Coast Park + Changi coastal TWICE! Hehehe.
AUGUST BABIES - 17th & 20th
Celebrated birthdays of Cecile's Prince Ryan & Joanne. Look at their birthday spreads!
Baby Ryan has got a nice Sesame Street birthday cake from Ang Mo Kio whereas Joanne got 38 peanut-ty stuff! Ah Ping came up with this brilliant idea. Poor 大姐 puked twice later that night but her liking for peanut butter remains undiminished. U go ger! :P

回顾零八 Jan - Apr

Time flies (what a cliche manner to start my blog). We have come to the last day of 2008. I'm at Starbucks now, sipping a bottle of carrot juice (hmmm...yes, it isn't latte cos caffeine makes me hungry). What i'm gonna do in the next couple of hours is to "reminiscence" the events for this entire year.

I actually prefer a journal to this virtual blog thingy but times are bad. I gotta be thrifty and not spend unnecessarily on pics and papers. So here i go...2008 in 3 quarters.

1st day of 2008 - January 01 NY RUN
I took a short run along City Hall area to Orchard Road and back. The night before, we did our countdown at Carlton Hotel (thanks to Miss Phoon & NP). I deliberately woke up to do a New Year morning run. I wanted to do smtg i like on the first day of the year and that is to run at a relaxed pace by myself *smile* The streets were surprisingly all cleared from the partying mess created the day before. Our cleaning crew is indeed efficient! I was delighted to run on a clean street.

January 05 DRAGON BOAT w/SIEMENS

Been a while since i paddled. It was a short 1-2 hour session but i had fun.

February 03 WORLD HARMONY RUN

My 2nd run this year. The weather was better...erm...in a way. The sun shone bright but decided to stop work and let Miss Rain took over. It was pouring shortly after we ended the 22km run at Merlion Park.

February 17 TOKYO MARATHON

On Valentine's Day, i left for Japan Marathon (my first overseas 42km) with a group of sgrunners whom i've never met before (except for Henry aka Tigger). It turned out to be one of the "funnest" trips i've ever had! Lotsa fun and laughter. After the marathon, we visited DisneySea, went ski-ing & soaked in hot springs. There are simply too many pics to be developed & interesting tales to tell hence i did up a journal for it.

March 08 4-80 CHALLENGE

A small event organised by some CC. Combined a short run of 4km and stairclimb. I can't sustain running fast for short distances - PROVEN...heheh. Only overtook during the stairclimb when most pple were suffocating in the poorly-ventilated building.

March 30 KL MARATHON

During this period, i was abit ga-ga over running. I clocked a mileage that most runners wouldn't agree - around 3 marathons over 30 days. Joanne texted me that she signed me up for this marathon the night i was done with the Japan one. But actually, i would have gone for it anyway.

April 26 BIDOR HALF MARATHON

Was recovering from injury when i went for this run. I was training for Japan Trailwalker & for the first time, i got an injury from overtraining. From then on, i understood the importance of rest & cross-training. Nonetheless, i enjoyed this kampong run tremendously & got to know some new friends in Msia.

Perfect Christmas

I just realised i am only left with one week before we have our annual Christmas celebration. Somehow, this idea of doing up a music vid for the gers just popped up. Originally, i wanted to do 1 song for the fun of it. Then i remembered tis sign language gig that i saw at Starbucks during Christmas period 6 yrs back. Hmm..."why not include this in the vid?" I thot.

Backtracking, that short gig (Clarence's nephew, Richmond was in it...and coincidentally Auntie Jo too) got me really keen in sign language. It was really cool to sign a song!

Now this is gonna be challenging. I've given my basic sign language knowledge back to the teacher. All i can depend on is my SEE dictionary..hehehe. Thank God i found this video on Utube (done by Richmond)! At least i got smtg to counter-check if i'm signing correctly. Let's see i can pull it off in a week's time. This is so exciting!!!

The day after SCSM

I had a moment of happiness just now. With Diana Krall's "Have Yourself a Merry Christmas" and eating my almond butter cake, sipping cafe latte at cosy Starbucks (Tanglin Mall). It's drizzling outside. And a cute guy is sitting opposite me. Heavens :)

The guy left shortly after his client arrived. The babies at the other table started crying and the staff was clearing the tables, creating a lot of noise in the process. What a stark contrast! Altho my "happiness" lasted for a short 3 minutes, i felt happy...sorta lifted up my spirits. Life can be nice (can't find an apt word now since the Christmas music just turned boring :P)

Well, yesterday was a busy and tiring day for me. It was fruitful though. Woke up at 3.15am for the marathon. I ran it with the NATAS SWET girls this year. (At this point, i suddenly remember i need to go get the papers. The girls may be on the news!)

Last Christmas

An immortal song. I forgot since when listening to this song became ritual each time it nears Christmas. Somehow every Dec, the piece just touched a part of my heart and there's this sourish feel. Nonetheless, i still love this classic...Hehehe

海角七号

Went to watch this movie on Sunday. I had no idea what show i was gonna watch. I'm a movie buff so when Joanna jio-ed, i agreed rightaway. I trust that she won't make us watch sicko shows like "SAW 1, 2 , 3, 4 , 5".

I only knew the movie was a Taiwanese show when i sat my butt on the cinema's couch.

Mmm...I don't like the show, i LOVE it!...in an old-fashioned way. Perhaps the music, sceneries and the close-to-life characters in the movie captivated me.

Besides the japanese tune, I fancy the finale song most. Somehow it slowly eats into me. The beginning lyrics are beautiful, i find. Hee. coincidentally, i have the same surname as the songwriter :P The 曲 has a rustic and sincere touch. Overall, 范逸臣 who sang it, did justice to both :)
