Fortune Telling

My mom just told me that the 3 of us (her, my sis & I) need to change the no. of strokes in our Chinese names. Ya, she went to a fortune teller yesterday. I told her not to have mine told next time. By this age, i no longer subscribe to such stuff altho' i do not rule out certain "phenomenons" that can't be explained scientifically or logically.

People go to fortune-tellers for various reasons - curiosity, in hope for a better life, etc. For my mom, it was the latter. Well...to me, u can change one aspect of your life but surely it will bring about a twist in another area. So it's never gonna end and u can't ever quite catch up enough. Today the fortune-teller advises you to change your name. The next time, he'll suggest u change ur hse. Why don't we just seek a group of people whose eight characters match ours perfectly and make them our family members and friends? Then life would be perfect! Hehehehehe.

Alright, my mom doesn't really have a smooth-sailing life. That's why she seeks guidance to make it better. Fair enough. However, it puzzles me when some of my colleagues who are sooooo blessed with good marriage, great kids and not-so-bad jobs are going to one!

I reckon humans can be greedy and discontented - U have a pearl in your hand but u want to own that diamond on the rack too. Of course, i'm not saying one can't strive to seek a better life but won't it be more efficient if we change our mindsets?
