Relearning my Chinese & History

Today burst with knowledge! I went for my first calligraphy lesson at 12.10pm. Been wanting to sign up ever since CK told me abt it. I needed to hone my patience henceforth this course. 2 hours flew past and I had only completed 2 sheets - 1 with my name and the other consisting of basic strokes. It really takes lotsa patience and one needs to be free of all interfering thoughts to write properly. Let's take a look at my "junk" work...can't even write my own name properly =P
After the lesson, i proceeded to the library (this time WITH my IC) to borrow the illustrated Chinese books that i didn't manage to do so yesterday. The mega ad posters that were hanging outside the library caught my attention. There were 2 exhibitions running - William Farquhar & S. Jayaretnam. Since i had time, i decided to drop by the former first.

What a display! It let me in to a perspective of Singapore history which i never learnt back in school. William Farquhar co-founded Singapore with Sir Stamford Raffles. I don't remember it being documented on our textbooks. This well-respected military man contributed much to our early history yet there isn't a statue for him in Singapore. What a shame =( Kudos to the team who presented this exhibition. It's easy to understand yet the language wasn't compromised. The video clip of a Farquhar descendent who came to Singapore in search of her roots was indeed heartwarming. Today's trip to the library has been fruitful.

Tough times, tough decisions, tough man

I took my late lunch of popiah & milo ($3.40 from Qiji) & walked home from Funan. Thank God the weather was windy.
