The Wedding

A big load off my mind (and other parts of me too) :P Time for some reflections.

This event was a test for friendships as well as relationships. The most valuable lesson i derived from the whole planning is that...u can craft a hardware that seems almost seamless, prepare the most impressive material but once u have a team that doesn't work together, everything falls apart. People are always the pivotal factor to a make or break.

I define a team as 2 or more people. Thru these few months, I see how the couple responded to differences, handled conflicts & dealt with uncertainties. Then, I witnessed how family members & close friends contributed to these responses...constructively & negatively. Who u choose as ur team player/s really really matters. U can be deployed a thousand soldiers but if they are incompetent, u lose ur war. Engage just one capable & trustworthy general, the same battle may be won.

Next question - how do u choose this ONE general?

Simple answer - time & trials

Time tells a person's character. The trials that u go thru with that person validate. It's simple to take things through happy times but it ain't the same to be able brave a storm & savor the rainbow that comes after.

Given our present times, we (in the developed countries) are blessed with all of our basic needs fulfilled. It takes a lot more effort to define & identify "trials". One of my (many) "trials" last night - helpers to turn up punctually at the ballroom half an hour BEFORE the guests.

My good pal did just that...a simple "little" act. She passed me the scissors to cut the tape, stuffed newspapers into the bins to make the lollipop decor bin, arranged the candy boxes etc. All these may sound easy but the setup wouldn't be ready in time if she (and a couple of other helpful hands whom i didn't asked to be present early) weren't there. For i, only have one pair of hands :)

Thanks to a great deal of help from these kind people, i managed to pull off last night's "show". Glitches happened, definitely. But then, knowing i could rely on a few "characters" took much stress off my shoulders. Well, at least they put the emphasis on the right priority. It's simple - being there ahead of time to start the show sure beats making a pretty appearance after the show has started :P
