Nope i'm not in a sad mood. Just suddenly tot of this song that i liked a lot when i was in Sec 1 or 2. I never knew how she looks like until 19 years later. Woah! Time flies! I miss those cassette days. Spending a fair deal of time waiting by the radio for my favorite songs and recording them...while doing my homework. The good ol' school days...

Wake-up Call
Reckon i took for granted my running fitness. I can complete the distance (most pple can, too) but not with an ideal personal timing. But when you pay peanuts, you get monkeys.
Today's AHM was a wake-up call. Sometimes, it's good to realise i've slided. Then after some whining and brooding, i'll pull up those socks. Don't be complacent. I'm not a natural so i need to work harder.
I had a lousy 21km. Started off with a big lemon and the theory prophesized by itself. Perhaps Jo was right - i set too high an expectation for myself. Each time i aim for smtg, i just can't do it properly. Beats me.
The process...
1. First time in the morning of AHM, i have to compete with pple for a cab. Strangely, there's no cab in sight.
2. Then this stupid army guy cut my queue @#$@%!
3. Met Elza (Jo's ex-teammate) in the cab. What a coincidence! I asked the couple behind me if they wanted to share a cab since we were heading the same way. But i didn't register their faces when i asked.
4. At 5.15am, i was still searching for the bag deposit (perspiring profusely).
5. Race flagged off at 5.20am. I was hungry. Digested part of that yam bun i had for breakfast while running to deposit my bag.
6. My hair was messy. Din have time to bun it up properly. Too lazy to adjust it durin the run.
7. The bridge part was fine, always my favorite part(if there's no bottleneck).
8. Turned into East Coast. Quite narrow in the beginning(as always) but was bearable later on. Weather was cooling. A pleasant surprise when i saw the U-turn point b4 MacDonalds. Now i know where Marina Cove is.
9. Some kookoo army guy poured water onto my shoes but was obviously unaware. Good thing i can tahan wet shoes and was about half done with the run.
10.At about 16km, i felt my left thigh cramping. Geez! I never have cramps for 21km!
11.The early U-turn at ECP was compensated by an extra U-turn at Crawford smtg (the same one for GE 10k). And the end point isn't the usual SCSM route. Since i was tired, it felt longer but on retrospect, it's a much smoother run to the finish line.
Anyway, i was shocked at my timing as i crossed the end banner. I was greatly disappointed at myself. Well, there's always a next race. I'll remember this lesson & redeem myself :)

Fortune Telling
My mom just told me that the 3 of us (her, my sis & I) need to change the no. of strokes in our Chinese names. Ya, she went to a fortune teller yesterday. I told her not to have mine told next time. By this age, i no longer subscribe to such stuff altho' i do not rule out certain "phenomenons" that can't be explained scientifically or logically.
People go to fortune-tellers for various reasons - curiosity, in hope for a better life, etc. For my mom, it was the latter. Well...to me, u can change one aspect of your life but surely it will bring about a twist in another area. So it's never gonna end and u can't ever quite catch up enough. Today the fortune-teller advises you to change your name. The next time, he'll suggest u change ur hse. Why don't we just seek a group of people whose eight characters match ours perfectly and make them our family members and friends? Then life would be perfect! Hehehehehe.
Alright, my mom doesn't really have a smooth-sailing life. That's why she seeks guidance to make it better. Fair enough. However, it puzzles me when some of my colleagues who are sooooo blessed with good marriage, great kids and not-so-bad jobs are going to one!
I reckon humans can be greedy and discontented - U have a pearl in your hand but u want to own that diamond on the rack too. Of course, i'm not saying one can't strive to seek a better life but won't it be more efficient if we change our mindsets?
